PPF PROTECTIVE FILM OR CERAMIC COATING?

PPF and ceramic coating are dedicated products for protecting car paint. However, they differ in durability and level of protection.

PPF is a polyurethane coating that, when applied to a car, looks remarkably like paint. It's the most effective way to protect your paint from weather conditions, mechanical damage, sharp objects, scratches, stone chips, and the effects of sandblasting during bright driving. Rivashield® paint protection films are up to 210 microns thick (thicker than the car paint itself) and are made from the highest quality components. They are the best choice for those who value both durability and
effectiveness.

Ceramic coating is a product designed primarily to harden surfaces, providing slipperiness, hydrophobicity, and antistatic properties. Ceramic coatings can slow down processes leading to paint damage, for example, by slowing down paint aging caused by sunlight. Furthermore, they make it easier to keep your car clean. However, they are not a product that protects against actual mechanical damage. The paint layer on a new car is typically around 100 microns thick, while a ceramic coating is only 2 microns thick. A car protected with a film retains its value better, and the film itself is an asset when selling the vehicle. Therefore, the choice between PPF and ceramic coating depends on the level of protection desired.

HOW TO SAFELY WASH YOUR CAR AFTER PROTECTIVE WAX?

  1. Rinse the car thoroughly with a pressure washer, starting with the dirtiest parts - wheel arches, rims, bodywork.
  2. Apply foam to the car using a foam canister and a dedicated pH-neutral detergent, then rinse thoroughly using a pressure washer.
  3. Wash the rims using brushes and specially designed preparations.
  4. To wash the bodywork, use a delicate mitt and two buckets (one bucket with warm water and shampoo, the other with just water to rinse the mitt).
  5. Rinse the entire car again and dry it with dedicated microfiber towels.
  6. When using a pressure washer, maintain a distance of at least 60 cm between the nozzle/lance and the element protected/covered with foil (very high water pressure at the very mouth of the lance may cause the foil to cut or peel off).
  7. Do not direct the nozzle at the edges of the foil as this may cause water to get under the foil and pry it open.
  8. Before using strong cleaning agents, test them in an inconspicuous area to ensure they do not damage the foil.

ATTENTION!

  • Any possible contamination (i.e. dirt caused by insects, bird droppings, etc.) should be removed immediately.
Dirt left on the foil for a long time may cause
    discoloration.
  • Do not use automatic car washes.
  • Do not wash your car in the sun.
  • The vehicle can be safely washed with pH neutral chemicals.

CAN I WASH A CAR WITH PPF IN AUTOMATIC/TOUCHLESS WASHES?

In the case of a car covered with PPF protective film, there are several factors that should be paid special attention to.

We absolutely advise against washing any car in automatic brush car washes. There's always a risk of damaging the paint or paintwork.

Brushes in automatic car washes are often dirty, which can dull the paint or foil and cause damage.

Self-service car washes are definitely a safer choice, but remember to keep an appropriate distance of approximately 60 cm from the item being washed.

At self-service car washes, it's also worth paying attention to the chemicals used. Often, these locations have a pH that's unfavorable for cars. For more information about the chemicals used, it's best to consult with a car wash employee to ensure the chemicals used have a neutral pH.

HOW SHOULD I STORE THE FILM?

  • To prevent damage, the film should be stored on the factory roll, tightly rolled and with the protective layer intact.
  • If stored incorrectly, transverse creases and discoloration that cannot be removed (tunnelling) may appear on the foil.
  • After unwinding from the roll, immediately remove the protective layer from the foil.
  • We recommend using the foil prepared for wrapping without a protective layer immediately or within 72 hours of removing it from the roll, as it may cause the material to burn and cause depressions/pits/craters to form.

WHAT ARE THE SIZES OF THE FILM ROLLS OFFERED?

Rivashield® Films:

  • BETA V2, MATTE, GHOST are rolls 15m long and 1.52m wide.
  • BETA 180 is 15m long and 1.8m wide.
  • Colored foils from the COLOR PPF series are 16 m long and 1.52 m wide.

THE FOIL DOES NOT STICK IN DIFFICULT PLACES, WHAT CAN I DO?

In this case, we recommend changing the soap solution for application.

Initially, we recommend a solution of one pump per 1.5 liters of water, but you should adjust the mixture to your own preferences, remembering that the amount of soap used decreases the adhesive strength of the glue.

Additionally, you can use warm water or a heat gun to help with the edges, as the glue starts to set when the water evaporates.

Under no circumstances should you use isopropyl alcohol (IPA) as this will cause the glue to burn and cause discoloration.

Even the minimum concentration of alcohol causes the glue to dissolve and irreversibly damage the material.

CAN I USE GLUE STRENGTHENERS OR PRIMER TO APPLY THE FILM?

We strongly advise against using any preparations with this effect as it will damage the adhesive.

Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) cannot be used for application because it dissolves the glue.

CAN I PROTECT ALL PAINTED SURFACES WITH MY FOIL?

Yes, Rivashield® film can be used to protect all smooth painted surfaces.

HOW CAN I CHECK IF MY CAR HAS BEEN WRAPPED WITH RIVASHIELD®?

The easiest way to verify this is with the warranty card, which you should receive when picking up your car after the film has been applied.

If for some reason you have not received such a card, please contact us to verify the originality of the product.
